Orthopaedic Institute of Central Maine (OICM)
Patient Education Package
Patients who are well educated about, and highly involved in, their surgery generally have a better outcome. The OICM model — dedicated in-hospital unit staffed entirely by orthopaedic specialists — works. They have the metrics to show it. One important tool is the Patient Information Kit. It addresses all preoperative, operative, and postoperative care, ranging from exercises to perform before surgery — to pain management — to tips for self-care and rehabilitation after leaving the hospital.
Shown here: Tabbed binder, sample inserts, follow-up appointment cards, and other information that will make the patient feel more comfortable going in for surgery — and help them recover more quickly.
